How to Become an Adoptive Parent

Heart of the Kids Social Services, Inc has a belief that every child has the right to grow up in a family where he or she is loved, nurtured, protected and appreciated for his or her unique individuality.

Certify & train committed and caring adoptive parents

Transition existing placements from foster care to that of permanent adoption within the same certified family

Place adoptive children in nurturing adoptive homes

Closely support & monitor adoptive placements within guidelines of the agency and TDFPS Standards

In concert with county child welfare and/or state

 

Do You Qualify?

Adults who are single or married may qualify to become adoptive or foster parents. You don’t need prior experience with parenting but you do need to be patient, loving and willing to learn about the needs of the child in your care.

Parents must also be able to provide a safe and nurturing home that has adequate space and complies with child safety regulations. Your income must be sufficient to meet your family’s needs, however, financial assistance is provided to care for foster and adoptive children. Parents must have dependable transportation to transport child to and from appointments. The entire process, including a home study and various training, takes about two to three months or can take longer depending upon the type of child a family desires.
